P. aeruginosa PAO1 known and proposed outer membrane proteins

This is not a complete list of all outer membrane proteins at this time and both gene identification and annotation description is currently under development. Some of these sequences below are not predicted to be OMPs with a high degree of confidence - this table should therefore be considered a list of sequences that could be targeted for further evaluation of cellular localization. Peptidoglycan-binding proteins, which may or may not be OMPs (some are likely not), are listed separately below.

Contig51 232853 234328 - probable outer membrane protein opmg precursor     opmG Probable outer membrane protein that may be involved in efflux (based on similarity with other OMPs known to be involved in efflux and based on gene context).  P. aeruginosa pmrA and pmrB are immediately downstream of this gene. These genes encode MFP and pump proteins that form part of an efflux machinery and so this OpmG gene is likely the outer membrane component of this cluster. However this is a somewhat atypical order for efflux genes - ususally the OMP component is encoded downstream of the MFP and pump. There is also a marR-like regulatory gene upstream. atypical N-terminal signal sequence : Most similar to outer membrane proteins that are known to be involved in efflux. Proposed member of the "OprM family" of outer membrane proteins. PseudoCAP(HancockOMP): Note that P. aeruginosa PmrA and PmrB should probably be renamed (MegA and MegB to follow other nomenclature for efflux genes?) since PmrA and PmrB are widely known two-component regulators (studied primarily in S. typhimurium) that have orthologs in P. aeruginosa.

TolC is required for proper expression of various E. coli outer membrane proteins.  Both upstream and downstream are divergently transcribed genes so this gene is probably monocistronic. Both upstream and downstream genes are not involved in efflux mechanisms (i.e. upstream is the probable thiC ortholog for thiamin biosynthesis), though this ORF does share similarity with OMP genes involved in efflux. However, due to this gene context and its similarity with TolC, it is likely a TolC ortholog.   : ORF with highest similarity to E. coli TolC over any other ORF in the P. aeruginosa genomic sequence. Also similar to outer membrane proteins involved in efflux. PseudoCAP(HancockOMP):
